Physical and Occupational Therapy Management of Postural Orthostatic Tachy
Exercising your way back to health from the comfort of your own home!
Exercising your way back to health from the comfort of your own home!
Rise Above POTS is a VIRTUAL physical and occupational therapy practice that was founded by Ashley Soughley; a Doctor of Physical Therapy, who is a board certified Neurological Clinical Specialist, and an APTA Credentialed Vestibular Specialist. Over the last 16+ years she has seen patients get dismissed by various healthcare professionals without solutions to their symptoms. With a special interest in dysautonomia and POTS, and a desire to treat complex diagnoses, Ashley is here to listen, implement and make change from the comfort of your own home, and on your own schedule so you can live your life to the fullest.
Rise Above POTS was created to help those suffering with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome get their lives back. Studies show that the #1 treatment intervention for the management of POTS-related symptoms is with exercise, and we're here to get you started on your path to healing by creating a comprehensive exercise routine, provide extensive education, and listen!
Rise Above POTS was also created to offer education of the treatment and management of POTS to clinicians and PT/OT rehabilitation clinics! 1:1 clinician consultations are available for clinicians, physicians, and those with, or caring for someone with POTS to ask questions, learn how to better manage a tough patient case, or work together to problem solve.
Virtual educational inservices and webinars are offered for rehabilitation clinics who are looking to learn more about the treatment and management of POTS, or just to help elevate current clinician practice! We want all clinicians to feel comfortable and confident in their treatment approaches to patients with POTS!

Physical therapy is an essential component in the evaluation and treatment of POTS, focusing on improving cardiovascular regulation, functional mobility, and overall tolerance to upright activity.
Evaluations typically include assessment of orthostatic vital signs, exercise tolerance, and the impact of symptoms such as tachycardia, dizziness, and fatigue on physical function.
Treatment is individualized and may involve a graded exercise program beginning with recumbent or semi-recumbent activities to minimize orthostatic stress, gradually progressing to upright exercises as tolerance improves. Emphasis is placed on improving lower extremity strength and venous return, using interventions such as resistance training, diaphragmatic breathing, compression garments, and hydration strategies.
Education on activity pacing, autonomic symptom management, and postural transitions is also integral to care.
Through consistent monitoring and tailored progression, physical therapy helps restore function, reduce symptom burden, and enhance quality of life for individuals with POTS.
Your first visit will be a comprehensive 90 minute evaluation followed by regular 60 minutes follow-ups at a frequency determined by the Doctor of Physical Therapy and yourself. We will work to develop a plan that works for you to help get your POTS-related symptoms under control!

Did you know that the management of POTS is highly successful with virtual occupational therapy?
Occupational therapy plays a key role in the multidisciplinary management of POTS by addressing the functional limitations associated with autonomic dysregulation.
Evaluations are scheduled for 90 minutes and your OT will assess the impact of orthostatic intolerance on activities of daily living (ADLs) and implement individualized interventions focused on energy conservation, graded activity tolerance, and autonomic symptom management.
Treatment may include education on body mechanics, task modification, environmental adaptation, and the use of adaptive equipment to support engagement in self-care, productivity, and community participation.
Cognitive strategies may also be employed to address associated symptoms such as brain fog and fatigue.
One of the few diagnoses that we can treat effectively virtually is POTS, so all evaluations and treatment will be virtual from the convenience of your home when it is convenient for you!
